HALIFAX - A messy weekend for the Mooseheads after two tough losses, including a 7-2 thumping at the hands of the Charlottetown Islanders.
A slow first period for Halifax put them behind 1-0 as Brett Budgell potted his 16th of the season for the PEI team.
Two more goals by the Islanders from Cole Edwards and Max-Antoine Melançon gave Charlottetown a 3-0 midway through the second frame before Halifax was able to answer back.
Kyle Petten scored to prevent a home shutout, while newly acquired Kevin Gursoy got the Mooseheads within one.
Things then fell apart.
Cole Edwards scored his second of the game a few seconds after the Gursoy goal while Gaetan Jobin, Brett Budgell and Zachary Beauregard, netted extra goals in the final frame, handing Halifax their second loss of the weekend.
Halifax will have a few nights off to recover before they begin a three game road trip beginning in Victoriaville on Friday night.
