Mooseheads fend off late comeback to pick up 6-5 win over Cape Breton

The Herd went 0-3 against Cape Breton this season before Friday night's win

HALIFAX -  The Halifax Mooseheads picked up a 6-5 win over the Cape Breton Eagles on Friday night.

Max Trepanier got the Herd off to a strong start, scoring back-to-back goals in the opening frame to make it 2-0.

Shawn Boudrias put Cape Breton on the board early in the second but Benoit Olivier Groulx asnwered back to make it 3-1 Halifax.

Jeffrey Burridge extended the Herd's lead but Egor Sokolov brought the Eagles within two in the dying minutes of the second period.

Grouxl potted his second goal of the evening early in the third period with Felix Lafrance answering back for Cape Breton.

Brooklyn Kalmikov eventually brought the Eagles within one but Groulx completed the hat trick.

Sokolov netted a goal in the final seconds of the third but it wasn't enough as the Herd held on to win 6-5.

The Mooseheads will make their way to Cape Breton to complete the home and home series.
