The Halifax Mooseheads came out on top in their season opener against the Cape Breton Eagles, winning 6-2 in Sydney, N.S.
After a scoreless opening frame, Cole Foston scored the Mooseheads' first goal of the season late in the second period.
Liam Kidney tied it up for the Eagles a short time after but Markus Vidicek restored the Herd's lead with his first goal as a Moosehead.
Nathan Larose tied it up for the Eagles early in the third period but Zachary L'Heureux responded for the Mooseheads.
L'Heureux later scored an empty netter followed up by Liam Peyton and James Swan to seal the 6-2 victory for Halifax.
The Mooseheads and Eagles are back in action on Saturday at the Scotiabank Centre.
