It's been a busy Wednesday morning for the Halifax Mooseheads following the opening of the QMJHL trade period.
The team acquired forward Robert Orr from the Sea Dogs in exchange for 2nd and 4th round picks in this weekend's Q-league entry draft.
Saint John originally picked up the 17-year-old in the 5th round of the 2019 draft. He had been ranked the 34th best available player by QMJHL Central Scouting.
The native of Beaconsfield, QC led the Lac St-Louis Lions in scoring last season and was 10th in the league with 45 points (20 goals, 25 assists) in 42 games. He finishes his QMAAA career with 78 points in 76 regular season games.
The Herd also made a trade with Moncton this morning, adding forwards Zachary L'Heureux and Elliot Desnoyers to the team's roster in exchange for 2nd and 3rd round draft picks in 2020, a 5th round selection in 2021, and 2nd and 3rd round choices in 2022.
L'Heureux was the third overall pick in 2019's entry draft and was a finalist for the QMJHL Rookie of the Year Award after tying for most points scored by a rookie with 53 points (20 goals, 33 assists).
Desnoyers was a 1st round pick for the Wildcats, selected 18th overall in 2018. The 18-year-old scored 35 points (11 goals, 25 assists) in 61 games last season. The Saint-Hyacinthe, QC native has a total of 66 points in 122 career regular season games.
The QMJHL trade period ends at 1 p.m. today.
The 1st round of the QMJHL entry draft will be held online this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
The Moose hold the 14th and 18th overall selections.
