Two people are facing weapons charges following a hit-and-run near Mic Mac Mall Thursday night.
Halifax Regional Police say a vehicle turning onto Horizon Court from Micmac Boulevard after 9 p.m. was hit from behind and one of the drivers left the area without exchanging information.
Officers tracked their vehicle down in the mall parking lot and arrested the driver. Police say while officers were in the process of seizing the vehicle, they found a long gun and also arrested a passenger.
The 21-year-old male driver from Cole Harbour has been charged with:
- Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a firearm with no license or certificate
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Unlawfully carrying a firearm or weapon
- Failure to stop after an accident
- Resisting arrest
- Failure to attend court
He was handed tickets for driving with a suspended licence and driving without insurance.
The passenger, a 17-year-old female from Lawrencetown, is facing one count each of:
- Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a firearm with no license or certificate
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Unlawfully carrying a firearm or weapon
Both have been released on conditions to appear in court at a later date.
