A longstanding dispute between two families relating to local lobster fisheries culminated in an altercation on the Eastern Shore, according to RCMP.
Mounties say it happened in Little Harbour, east of Clam Harbour, when two men went to another man's home to confront him. They say when two more men arrived, a fight broke out and weapons were involved, including a wrench, golf club and baseball bat.
Two men were taken to hospital. A woman was also hurt but didn't need medical treatment.
Three were arrested.
A 33-year-old man from Southwest Cove is facing charges of assault with a weapon, a 49-year-old man from Little Harbour is facing charges of assault with weapon, mischief, and breach of undertaking, and a 21-year-old man from Little Harbour is facing charges of assault, uttering threats, and breach of undertaking.
Mounties say they're taking this incident seriously and their investigation is ongoing.
"Since the beginning of the lobster season, the RCMP has been conducting proactive patrols with a visible police presence on the water and this will continue until the end of the season," say RCMP in a news release. "Building a partnership with the fishing communities and ensuring everyone safety is a priority for the RCMP."
