RCMP say two people charged with impaired driving on Wednesday were more than twice the legal limit.

The first was pulled over at 10:25 a.m. on Cow Bay Rd. in Eastern Passage.

When the officer suspected signs of impairment, the driver was taken to the Cole Harbour Detachment for a breath test.

According to Mounties, it was more than three times the legal limit.

A 39-year-old Cole Harbour man is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on May 26 at 9:30 a.m. on charges of impaired operation of a conveyance and impaired operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration that is equal to or exceeds 80 mg%.

The second driver was stopped by police at 12:40 p.m. on Hammonds Plains Rd. in Upper Tantallon.

RCMP say his breath samples were more than twice the legal limit.

The 48-year-old Hammonds Plains man is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on May 26 at 9:30 a.m., facing charges of impaired operation of a conveyance and impaired operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration that is equal to or exceeds 80 mg%.

RCMP say impaired driving increases the risk of death and serious injury to yourself and others.

"We all have a responsibility to drive safely," said Mounties in a news release. "Always drive sober and call 911 if you believe someone is driving impaired or is otherwise an immediate threat to public safety."

"Include as many details as possible, such as the location, direction of travel, vehicle description and license plate number."
