The portion of Hammonds Plains Road that was closed due to a building fire has since reopened.

Around 11:20 a.m., a building fire had occurred in the 1300 block of Hammonds Plains Road. Halifax Regional Police (HRP) and Halifax Fire & Emergency closed the road from St. George Boulevard to Lucasville Road.

"We believe this fire originated on the first floor and extended up the outside of the building into the second floor and threatened the attic," David Meldrum deputy chief of Halifax Fire & Emergency says. "There is one reported injury of a [teenage girl] who has been transported to the hospital but we don't believe that that injury is life-threatening."

Meldrum also says a number of units were on the scene. Firefighters have searched the building and have extinguished the fire.

Police say they will advise when the road reopens.
