Halifax Regional Police have arrested a man after shutting down a busy street in a Dartmouth neighbourhood.
Officers on the scene say they were called to Albro Lake Road and Windmill Road after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Halifax Regional Police spokesperson John MacLeod said officers were trying to take a man into custody in relation to a weapons call.
HalifaxToday.ca reporter Josh Hoffman was told by officials that a suspect entered a home with a weapon.
"Police surrounded a building at the corner of Windmill Road and Wallace Street, and cordoned off the area," he explained. "After two hours, they were able to take the male suspect into custody without incident."
Hoffman said before the arrest, a tactical unit with helmets, shields and guns was up beside a building and they appeared to be talking to someone inside.
"One resident about 4 houses down yelled at an officer asking if they were safe, the officer said there was nothing to worry about," Hoffman said.
Those living in the neighbourhood waited in the rain to be escorted by police into and out of the area, and at least 2 businesses were closed for safety reasons.
Windmill Road between Albro Lake Road to Howe Street has reopened to cars and pedestrians.
