UPDATE: Man arrested in fatal Hubley crash no longer facing impaired driving charges

Halifax District RCMP say one man is dead and another is facing impaired driving charges after an early morning crash that shut down a section of Highway 3 in Hubley earlier today.

Mounties were called to the single-vehicle collision near 3618 St. Margarets Bay Rd. just after 5 a.m. Tuesday by someone who heard a loud bang in the area.

Arriving officers found a man crouching in the woods near the vehicle and say he showed signs of impairment.

The 28-year-old from Cape Breton was taken to hospital for injuries and remains in police custody.

He's currently facing a number of charges including impaired operation of a conveyance causing death and theft of a motor vehicle. RCMP say additional charges are expected.

A second man was found in the vehicle. First responders tried to extricate him, but the 28-year-old who had been living in Halifax died at the scene.

Police believe there may have been three other passengers in the vehicle and they're asking them to come forward.

Mounties would also like to speak with two females, one of whom may have been driving a black VW Jetta, that police believe stopped at the scene before officers arrived, but then left the area.

Halifax District RCMP can be contacted at 902-490-5020.
