A man is dead after a fiery crash early Saturday morning on Cole Harbour Rd.

RCMP say he was driving a small blue car that went off the road and down a 20-foot embankment.

A bystander tried to help the driver, who was trapped inside, before the vehicle burst into flames.

When emergency crews arrived they were able to put the fire  out, but weren't able to save the man.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and the road was closed for several hours while a collision analyst collected evidence from the scene.

Mounties are working with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to try and identify the victim.
