A man has been charged with first degree murder in the death of an 85-year-old woman earlier this month.

Halifax Regional Police were called to Dartmouth's Lynwood Drive -- near Waverley and Montague roads -- at around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, where they found the body of Eleanor Noreen Harding inside a residence.

After an autopsy, the Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Richard George Willis, 62, of Truro was arrested Thursday.  He's also been charged with break and enter.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have picked up a hitchhiker between Dartmouth and Truro on Friday, July 10 between 2 a.m. and noon.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call police at 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.

NOTE: This is a corrected story. Police originally stated the suspect had been charged with second degree murder.
