A man has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being assaulted and robbed in Halifax early Friday morning.

Halifax Regional Police say the victim was calling out for help when they found him just before 5 a.m. on Gottingen Street north of Cornwallis.

Police believe the victim and suspect -- who didn't know each other -- got into a fight.

The suspect was still on site when officers arrived and police say they found a knife.

Brian Stanley Knowles, 43, of Halifax has been charged with assault with a weapon, robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
