Halifax man charged in four recent robberies

A suspect has been arrested after robberies at three gas stations and a hotel

A Halifax man is facing charges in four armed robberies on the peninsula within the past week.

Police were called to the Esso gas station on Chebucto Rd. near the Armdale Rotary at 6:40 a.m. Sunday. Officers say a man threatening the lone employee with a knife before leaving with cigarettes and money. 

Just after midnight on Tuesday morning, police say the Irving on Quinpool Rd. was robbed of cash after a man threatened an employee with a knife.

The Irving on Inglis St. was robbed of cash and cigarettes at knifepoint just before 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Then, just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday, police say a man with a knife robbed an employee at the Hollis Halifax Hotel, leaving with the staff member's backpack.

None of the employees were hurt.

Glenwood Eugene Oickle, 48, of Halifax was arrested Thursday.

He's scheduled to appear in court today to face four counts of robbery, four counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and 12 counts of breach of probation.

Police are still investigating and anyone with information is asked to call police at 902-490-5016 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
