Halifax Regional Police have charged a man in relation to a sexual assault that happened at a Halifax residence Monday.

"A man sexually assaulted a youth under 16 years of age with whom he was acquainted," police alleged in a news release.

Officers say they arrested a suspect Wednesday on Nantucket Avenue.

Police say 19-year-old Dequone Anthony Lethbridge from Dartmouth is scheduled to appear in court today to face charges of aggravated sexual assault and sexual interference.

"Sexual assault investigations are complex," said HRP. "As part of our victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to sexualized violence, we work closely with victims, and in the case of youths, their parents or guardians."

"Police must also ensure the victim’s privacy is upheld and their well-being is fully considered."
