At 2:20 a.m. this morning, an RCMP officer on patrol in North Kentville noticed a vehicle driving erratically.

The police cruiser turned around, followed the car up Middle Dike Rd., and activated its lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

But as the RCMP member got closer to the vehicle, it accelerated through an intersection, lost control, and hit a cement retaining wall.

The two occupants of the car were taken to Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, and the driver was later pronounced deceased.

The passenger sustained non life-threatening injuries.

Kings District RCMP have passed the incident off to SiRT, the Serious Incident Response Team, and are unable to give further details at this time.
