Edward O. Porter

With deep sadness, we share the passing of Ed Porter at age 87 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. Born March 15, 1931 in Falmouth, Hants County. He was the son of the late, Albert and Hulda (Lenihan) Porter.
Ed began work at the age of 15 at the Windmill Canteen, Falmouth flipping burgers & making friends; moving to Sales with Hants Wholesalers; travelling dirt roads from New Ross to Kempt Shore. He moved to Manager after five years. In 1972 he purchased the Falmouth KwikWay which he owned until retirement in 1990. Ed made many long-lasting friendships ranging from former coworkers, customers & neighbours. As a result of his “retirement job”, his woodworking skills are evident in the many screen doors, adirondack chairs & furniture in Hants Co. & beyond, office furnishings in Kings-Edgehill School, Pothier Motors & Fundy Gypsum; a self-taught hobby he enjoyed in his shop on the hill. As a Board Member of Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Ed was Plot Planner for many years.
Survived by his children; Catherine (Paul) Langdon; Steven (Sue); Michael (Sheila), and Lynn (Doug) Strong & grandchildren, Ashley Langdon (Matt), Meaghan McGuire (Joe), Brettanie Deal-Porter (Matt), Mackenzie Mcgregor (Tom), Adam Strong and great grandchildren, Ivy McGuire, Harrison Kern, Lennie Mcgregor; sister Rachel Sheehy, sister-in-law Edna Porter; brother-in-law Bev Trask.
Predeceased by his wife, Shirley Porter & granddaughter, Mollie Strong; sister, Olive (Bud Dodge); brothers, Stan, Everett (Olive) & Donald (Dorothy); sister, Maxine Trask.
Ed’s family would like to thank the medical staff of HCH.
A memorial service will be held 2 pm, Saturday, June 30, 2018 in the Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0. Celebrant Helen Lindsay will be officiating.
