DICKSON (Blagdon), Isobelle Mildred

Isobelle Mildred (Blagdon) Dickson

FEBRUARY 10, 1942 ~ SEPTEMBER 12, 2018

Surrounded by her loving family, Isobelle Mildred Dickson, age 76, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.  Born February 10, 1942, in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Francis (Best) Blagdon.

As a young woman, Isobelle first worked at Shepherd’s FNS in North Sydney.  Soon after, she married the love of her life, Robert, and they moved to Toronto, living there for several years before returning to Cape Breton.  For over twenty years, Isobelle worked with Sears Canada and Sears Canada agencies.  She dearly enjoyed this work, her work friends and the public she would meet everyday.  Isobelle’s greatest satisfaction came from looking after her family.  They enjoyed many happy gatherings around her dining room table.  She also had many friends and extended family and always made the effort to keep in touch.  In her retirement years, she enjoyed weekly yoga, lunches with friends, daily walks, and day trips around the Island.  Isobelle was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines.

Isobelle is survived by her son, Robert, daughter, Sherry (Paul) Finney, granddaughter, Meghan Finney (Michael Dwyer), granddaughter Emily Dickson, great-granddaughter, Eva Dwyer; sisters, Dorothy Ferguson, Bessie Billard, brother Charlie Blagdon; sisters-in-law Rosemary Blagdon, Gwen Blagdon and Bonnie Dickson; and many nieces and nephews.

Isobelle was predeceased by her husband, Robert, granddaughter in infancy, Miranda Finney, brothers, Wilfred, Walter, and Henry Blagdon; sisters, Margaret Shepherd and Eva Scott;  brothers-in-law Joe Shepherd, Ross Ferguson, Jim Scott, Les Billard and Richard Dickson; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Blagdon, and Julia Blagdon.

Special thanks to Dr. Saliba, Dr. Mahmoud-Ahmed and the staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, as well as Dr. Wong, Dr. Brake and staff of the CBRH Intensive Care Unit.

There will be no visitation. A funeral service for Isobelle will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15 at Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, with Reverend Stacey Lemoine officiating.  A reception will follow in the church hall.  Burial at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.  Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or the Terry Fox Foundation.
