Eleanor Violet Jane (Simmons) Butt – 92, of Kentville, passed away Saturday, January 5th, 2019, at Warkworth Place, Ontario. Born in Bishops Falls, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Pearl (Young) Simmons. While in Newfoundland she worked as a clerk at Riffs, then worked many years in the family business, as well as being a Sales Representative for Avon. She was on the Hospital Auxiliary in Grand Falls – Windsor, NL and opened her home to many boarders who were teaching in the area. Her many travels around the world with her husband, led her to Greece, Hawaii, Aruba, and several other exotic destinations. Eleanor enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking, and baking and was well known for her keen fashion sense. She was a dedicated Brownie leader, a member of the Gideons International in Canada, and 50 Plus at Kingsway Assembly. As a devoted Salvationist, she was heavily involved in many areas of the church. She loved hymns and being in the songsters, participated in the Home League for most of her life, and attended Nifty Fifties with her husband. Mostly well known for her generous hospitality, even strangers were welcomed to a meal or a cup of tea at her table. She was a wonderful hostess serving many guests over the years. She loved people, had a great sense of humour, and loved a good laugh. Eleanor is survived by two sons, Ivar (Gladelle) and Leonard Jr.; five siblings, Stephen (Rose), Beatrice (Gerald), Mae (Raymond), Eric (Christine) and Ruth (Joseph); four grandchildren, Natalia (Travis), Andrea (Neil), Jordan (Michelle), and Vincent; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Myah. She was predeceased by Leonard, her husband of 64 years; her stepmother, Annie (Alcock); brothers, Ron, and Bill. Visitation and gathering will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
