Howard James Brown


86, of Kentville, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS. Born in Hall's Harbour, Kings County, he was a son of the late Vernon and Violet (Sanford) Brown. He grew up on the family farm and often talked about picking rock off the land. He was later employed with Scotties chip company, the Nova Scotia Sanatorium, the Miller Hospital and the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville. Howard enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and fishing. He and Amy also attended many Saturday night dances and enjoyed travelling. Howard was a loving husband and devoted caregiver to Amy. He is survived by two step daughters, Karen (Sheldon) Lightfoot, Kentville; Doris (Darrell) Lightfoot, Canning; a step son, Frederick G. (Shelley McMullin) Jackson, Kingsport; nine step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; sisters, Martha Munroe, Hall's Harbour; Melina Colburne, Ormocto, NB; several nieces and nephews including special niece, Judy Brown. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Amy (Nisbet) Brown; brothers, Eddie and Doug; sisters, Flora Sanford and Verna Rees. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 in the Pereaux Baptist Church, Pastor Mike Veenema and Chaplain Chris Wickens officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the MS Society of Nova Scotia, the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or the Valley Regional Hospital. The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Evergreen Home for Special Care, Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Valley Regional Hospital and the VON for their care and compassion. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
