1940 - 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of N. Archie Black age 79 of Lower Shinimicas NS announce his passing on Monday March 11th, 2019 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, while surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lower Shinimicas and was a son of the late Noel W. and Laura C. (Davis) Black.
Archie began his career with Sherman MacKay Constructions and later worked at Doug Casey’s Ford Garage after which he worked for Lloyd Langille Constructions for several years. Archie also helped operate Stuart Blair’s Mink and Fox Ranch and retired in 1993 from the Northport Park with Lands and Forest.
Archie was a faithful member of the Sunrise Renwick United Church for many years.
An avid outdoors man, Archie enjoyed trapping, hunting with his hound dogs and fishing at the Red Bank.
A love for music, Archie especially enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music and family trips throughout the Maritimes camping at bluegrass festivals.
Archie will be greatly missed by his loving wife Iris (Pfinder) of 55 years; sons, Anthony (Sharon), Keswick, ON, Jim (Rita), Beaverbank, NS and Duane (Sherry), Amherst; daughter, Nicole (Paul) Stone, Amherst; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Jean MacDonald, Stellarton, NS; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Archie was predeceased by brothers, Gordon, and Eldon; sisters, Florence Bunn, Elsie Smith, Jewel Brander, Betty Macdonald, Sybil and Eleanor.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm as well as Saturday 1:00 pm until funeral service at 2:00 pm with K. Ruth Gamble, DLM officiating all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906. Reception to follow.
Interment will take place at a later date in the Shinimicas Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Archie’s memory may be made to the Cumberland Hospice Palliative Care Society or the Cumberland Regional Health Care Foundation.
