A release from the Nova Scotia RCMP says a Chrysler sedan was attempting to pass other vehicles and struck an oncoming Volkswagen.

The Volkswagen was occupied by two people. A 71-year-old woman from Kentville in the passenger seat died at the scene, and the driver was transported to hospital via LifeFlight with serious injuries.
