HALIFAX — Nova Scotia confirmed one more case of COVID-19 Saturday, bringing the total to 1,049.

The province says there are 12 residents and four staff with active cases at the hard-hit Northwood long-term care facility in Halifax.

Fifty-two of the province's 58 COVID-19 deaths have occurred at Northwood.

The province says there is a resident at one other long-term care home with an active case.

Dr. Robert Strang, chief medical officer of health, says in a statement that the province is heading in the right direction as new case numbers remain low.

Strang asked Nova Scotians to continue to practice good hygiene and follow public health orders as the weather improves and restrictions loosen.

Six people were in the hospital due to the virus on Saturday, including three people in intensive care.
