HALIFAX - The Halifax Mooseheads fell short Wednesday night, losing 3-2 in a shootout against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

After 40 minutes of play, neither team managed to find the back of the opposition's net. Both teams only had 19 shots on goal combined after two periods.

Mathias Laferriere eventually put Cape Breton on the board near the midway point of the third with Samuel Asselin tying things up at 1-1 shortly after.

Ben Higgins and Mitchell Balmas traded goals late in the period to keep things tied up at 2-2, forcing overtime.

Neither team managed to steal the game in overtime, leading to a shootout where Cape Breton's Ryan Francis scored the game winner.

On Friday, the Mooseheads get set to welcome the Moncton Wildcats to the Scotiabank Centre.
