Mooseheads pick up 3-2 shootout win over Cape Breton in game one of Hurley Cup

Both teams will meet again Monday at the Scotiabank Centre to determine who will go home with the Hurley Cup

SYDNEY, N.S. - The Halifax Mooseheads picked up a 3-2 shootout victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in game one of the Hurley Cup.

After a scoreless first period, Samuel Asselin gave the Mooseheads a 1-0 lead early in the second period. 

Cape Breton's Mathias Laferriere tied things up at 1-1 heading into the third period.

Asselin put Halifax up 2-1 early in the third with his second of the afternoon with Mitchell Balmas tying things up shortly after to force overtime.

Neither managed to score during overtime, leading to a shootout where Benoit Olivier-Groulx iced it for the Mooseheads.

Both teams will meet again Monday at the Scotiabank Centre to determine who will go home with the Hurley Cup.
