HALIFAX - The Halifax Mooseheads took game one with a 5-3 victory over the Moncton Wildcats to start the second round of the playoffs.
The Mooseheads drew first blood as Raphael Lavoie scored his eighth goal of the playoffs on a powerplay.
Alexander Khovanov tied things up for the Wildcats early in the second period with Xavier Parent responding shortly after.
Brady Pataki tied things up for Moncton again, but Samuel Asselin answered back 20 seconds later to make it 3-2 Halifax heading into the final period.
Jared McIsaac extended Halifax's lead to 4-2 late in the third period but Moncton's answered right back to make it a one goal game.
Lavoie eventually iced the game with an empty netter to make it a 5-3 final for the Herd.
Game two is set to take place Saturday at the Scotiabank Centre.
