Mooseheads clinch first place in Eastern Conference with 3-2 shootout loss to Islanders

With Baie-Comeau's 4-1 loss to Rimouski, the Herd has clinched first place in the Eastern Conference

HALIFAX - The Halifax Mooseheads fell 3-2 in a shootout loss to the Charlottetown Islanders, but still clinch first place in the Eastern Conference.

The Mooseheads got off to a great start with Keith Getson and Justin Barron both finding the back of Charlottetown's net to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes.

But the second period was a different story as Hunter Drew and Nikita Alexandrov responded to tie things up for the Islanders at 2-2.

After a scoreless third period, the went to overtime where neither managed to ice the game.

The Islanders eventually won it in a shootout, handing the Herd its 16th loss of the season.

But with Baie-Comeau's 4-1 loss to Rimouski, the Herd has clinched first place in the Eastern Conference which means they will play the Quebec Remparts in the first round of the playoffs.
