Halifax District RCMP have identified the woman and man involved in the incident in Cole Harbour Tuesday night.

Cpl. Dal Hutchinson says police were searching for a vehicle after a 911 call reported a young woman being forcibly dragged into a vehicle by a male who then drove off with her.

"We applaud the person who called for taking quick action," he says. "It's one of those situations where people did the right thing."

He says information from the public helped identify the man and woman and investigators have confirmed the woman is safe.

"We had a lot of assistance from the public," he says. "They reached out to police with information that enabled us to identify both parties involved."

Hutchinson says the two are known to each other but he would not say if charges will be laid.

He says the incident happened around 10 p.m. on Flying Cloud Drive.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
