The Halifax Regional Municipality will be enforcing the winter parking ban overnight.

Any vehicles left parked on city streets between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 risk being ticketed or towed.

The municipality will increase enforcement of the ban in areas near hospitals, schools and bus routes.

HRM is also asking residents to make sure sidewalks are clear for snow removal equipment.

In addition to the overnight ban, residents are reminded vehicles can be ticketed or towed at any time of day or night if they get in the way of snow clearing operations under the province's Motor Vehicle Act.

Environment Canada is expecting 5 to 10 cm of snow to fall in the Halifax area Thursday.

Some Halifax Transit routes have been put on snow plans.
