Residents can now go swimming at Albro Lake, Oakfield, Government Wharf and Kinap beaches.

Halifax Regional Municipality said follow-up tests at those swimming spots show the water is safe for the public.

As of 5:20 p.m. Friday, Birch Cove and Kinsman beaches remain closed.

Tests at those beaches have shown bacteria levels in the water exceed Health Canada guidelines.

The municipality is also testing suspected algae blooms in Lake Banook and is urging  lake users to take precautions and avoid swimming or allowing pets in the affected area.

The water quality is regularly tested at all supervised and four unsupervised beaches in HRM over the summer.

Residents can check the status of their favourite municipal beach online.
