Police in New Zealand have announced a manhunt is over and an arrest has been made in the shooting death of an Australian man, engaged to a woman from Halifax.

Bianca Buckley of Halifax, was inside a camper van with the shooting victim, when the suspect fired a number of rounds, striking 33-year-old Sean McKinnon of Australia.

On Facebook, Waikato Police say a 23-year-old man was located and arrested in connection to the death.

Detective Inspector Graham Pitkethley says the man is facing numerous charges, and was arrested late Friday night.

Waikato Police also confirming the name of the victim is indeed Sean McKinnon.

Buckley escaped and ran for help.

The parents of the Halifax woman who survived the seemingly random attack say they are "devastated'' by the tragedy.

The parents of Bianca Buckley say they have been in touch with their daughter, but have said nothing further.

The 23-year-old suspect, who has not been named, has been charged with murder, aggravated robbery and threatening to kill.
