Storm closures and cancellations : March 13, 2018

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch, a wind warning and a special weather statement for Halifax Tuesday, forcing some closures and cancellations. 

SCHOOLS

Saint Mary's University will close at 5:30 p.m.

Dalhousie's Halifax campus and University of Kings College, along with their agricultural campus in Truro, will close tonight at 5:00 p.m. Tiger patrol will not be running

Mount Saint Vincent University will be cancelling any classes beginning at 6 p.m. or later; online classes may proceed, technology permitting

NSCAD's evening classes are cancelled

NSCC's metro campuses (Ivany Campus/Aviation Institute, Akerley and Institute of Technology) will be closing at 6 p.m., continuing education evening classes are cancelled

Other NSCC campuses in the province are also closed

All Tri-County Regional School Board school sites, work sites and central offices will close at 3 p.m. today

TRANSPORTATION

The Woodside Ferry Terminal is without power, service has been suspended until it returns; shuttle buses will run from Alderney to Woodside

The MacKay Bridge is now closed to high sided vehicles

Some Halifax Transit routes have been put on detour

Halifax Regional Municipality will be enforcing the winter parking ban overnight into Wednesday

Halifax Stanfield International Airport is expecting flight delays and cancellations, they recommend checking with your airline for more information

Maritime Bus is operating under a storm warning and has cancelled some routes, including Route 105 which was scheduled to departing Halifax at 4 p.m.

Tancook Island ferry service has been suspended 

SERVICES

There are several power outages in HRM

All branches and departments of Halifax Public Libraries will close at 5 p.m.

All Service Nova Scotia offices, including Access Centres in the Metro area, will be closing at 4 p.m.

ISANS has cancelled all evening classes and workshops, their Mumford and Joseph Howe offices will be closing at 4:30 p.m.

The Community YMCA on Gottingen St. will be closing at 6:30 p.m.; all programs are cancelled this evening

YMCA of Halifax/ Dartmouth has cancelled  A.I.M. classes

Halifax Regional Municipality says recreation programs and services may be cancelled this evening and tomorrow morning

Workers' Compensation Board will be closing their Halifax office at 3:30 p.m.

The Halifax Public Gardens will remain closed Wednesday

EVENTS

Halifax Libraries' Homage to Catalonia's Cinema: Understanding Spain's Most Restless Region, originally scheduled for tonight at the Central Library has been rescheduled to March 22

Halifax Libraries says the Bedford Radon detection program and scheduled for this evening has been cancelled and the Engineers Nova Scotia March Break program scheduled for this evening has been rescheduled to Thursday

The Fair Pricing for Journals public consultation on Dalhousie's Sexton Campus will happen next Tuesday 

Government House's event featuring musicians Peter Allen & Patricia Creighton will now take place at 7pm on Tue, 20 March 

BUSINESSES

The Halifax Shopping Centre will be closing at 7:15 p.m.

Some NSLC stores in HRM are closed

The Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market will be closing at 3:00 p.m.

Some businesses may close down early, it's best to call before heading out

OTHER

 Maritime Museum of the Atlantic will be closing at 5 p.m.
