SCHOOLS:

All Halifax Regional School Board schools and offices will remain closed today due to widespread power outages throughout the municipality

All Annapolis Valley Regional School Board schools closed; ofices/worksites in West Hants are closed; offices/worksites in Kings & Annapolis delayed opening to 9 a.m.

Tri-County Regional School Board has closed all schools in Digby, Yarmouth and Shelburne counties, all worksites will also be closed today

Chignecto Central Regional School Board has closed all schools

All Strait Regional School Board schools and offices will remain closed

South Shore Regional School Board has closed schools in Lunenburg County and Queens County

Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board has cancelled classes for all students 

CSAP has cancelled classes at their central region schools including École du Grand-Portage, École secondaire du Sommet, École Beaubassin, École du Carrefour, École Bois-Joli and École des Beaux-Marais 

Halifax Grammar School is closed

Halifax Christian Academy's Armdale Campus is closed

Saint Mary's University is closed until at least 3 p.m. Friday, they will reassess later in the day for possible evening opening 

NSCAD will delay opening until at least 10 a.m., the Port Campus currently has no power and some classes are being moved to other locations

All NSCC campuses, including Institute of Technology Campus, Ivany/Aviation Institute and Akerley, will remain closed today

Atlantic School of Theology is closed

 

TRANSPORTATION:

The MacKay Bridge is currently closed to heavy and high sided vehicles, some Halifax Transit routes have been detoured

Traffic lights are out at many intersections, treat as a four-way stop

Halifax Transit has had to close a stop on Barrington Street northbound just before Morris (stop 6113) due to "a structural issue with a nearby billboard"

Some sections of the Halifax boardwalk are closed until further notice

Several flights remain cancelled at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, check with your airline before heading out

Marine Atlantic crossings between North Sydney and Port aux Basques have been cancelled for Friday and Saturday, and they warn of a potential impact to service Sunday and Monday

St Margaret's Bay Road near Whynaughts Beach Lane is currently closed. (Near Queensland) Reports part of the road has washed out

Hwy 207 Lawrencetown Beach Road is closed, the rocks have been removed but there's damage to the pavement

Conrads Road is closed from the bridge at the beach to Trunk 3 until further notice

 

HEALTH CARE:

Nova Scotia Health Authority's Public Health Office on Mellor Avenue in Dartmouth is closed at least until noon which will affect the following services:

·         Screening at the IWK will plan to continue
·         Home visits will continue if the family have power etc.
·         Tenants are being notified
·         Travel clinic clients will be called
·         Outbreak investigation will continue from off site
·         Monitoring of the intake line for communicable disease will continue

The Wyse Road Community Mental Health and Addiction Clinic is closed until at least noon 
 
The Cobequid Community Health Centre hypertension clinic has been cancelled 
 
The Nova Scotia Operational Stress Injury Clinic in Burnside has no power and will open as soon as it's restored 

The Family Focus Medical Clinic in Forest Hills will open at 1 p.m.

 

SERVICES:

Curbside collection of garbage, organics, and recyclables in areas normally scheduled to occur, has been cancelled, there will be a makeup collection day on Saturday Jan. 13

Some recreation facilities in HRM may be closed due to power outages, the municipality recommends calling ahead

Halifax Central Library is currently closed due to a water pressure issue 

Halifax Public Libraries say their Sheet Harbour branch is closed, Bedford will open at 10:30 a.m.

YMCA Nova Scotia Works Employment Centres in Porter's Lake, Middle Musquodoboit and Sheet Harbour will be closed this morning

United States Consulate General in Halifax, visa applicants asked to reschedule

 

RETAIL:

Some NSLCs don't have power and are closed, they recommend calling ahead

Halifax Shopping Centre will open at noon

Mic Mac Mall has power and will be open today, but says some stores may stay closed

Sunnyside Mall now has power, doors are open, retailers to oepn at noon

Dartmouth Crossing is still without power; IKEA will open at 10 a.m. with no cafeteria; Home Depot and Costco are both open on generator power, but the Costco food court is closed, the rest of the stores are closed

The Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market will delay opening, customers can call 902-492-4043 ext. 101 for updates

Ski Wentworth is closed due to high winds 

Many businesses are still without power and may be closed

 

MUSEUMS:

The Museum of Natural History will remain closed until at least 10 a.m.

Maritime Museum of the Atlantic will remain closed until at least 10 a.m.

 

GOVERNMENT:

All provincial government offices will delay opening until 10 a.m.
