RCMP say the driver of a school bus that was carrying 11 students has been seriously injured after a crash in Cape Breton.

Police say the bus collided with a tractor-trailer that had been parked overnight along Highway 105 near Englishtown.

They say the trailer had been left partially in the road near the crest of Kellys Mountain.

The driver had to be airlifted to hospital. The students' injuries  are described as "bumps and bruises."

The highway had to be shut down in both directions while a traffic analyst investigated.
