It's shaping up to be a wet start to the weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Halifax, as well as a large portion of Nova Scotia.

Up to 40 mm of rain is expected in HRM, with the heaviest likely along the coast. The rain is expected to start late Friday afternoon or early evening.

"In addition, strong and mild southwesterly winds accompanying the rain will give substantial snowmelt," Environment Canada writes. "Significant water runoff may cause minor flooding of roads and culverts."

The national forecast shows the rain wrapping up Saturday morning, with a chance of showers through the day.
