Police respond to complaints of man assaulting a dog

A 58-year-old Halifax man faces charges of animal cruelty after witnesses called police to complain that the man was forcibly dragging the dog by its leash and kicking it in the head.

Witnesses remained on the scene until police arrived.

The assault of the dog took place at about 4:10 p.m. on the 6000 block of North Street in Halifax.

The dog was taken to an animal clinic by Animal Services where it is being monitored, say police. 

The dog is not believed to be seriously injured.

The man was arrested at the scene and will face charges of animal cruelty in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.
