Halifax Regional Police say they have arrested a 53-year-old Head of Chezzetcook Man after an incident early this morning in Dartmouth.
At approximately 4:50 a.m. on July 5, police responded to a report of two people acting suspiciously in the 100 block of Trinity Avenue, Dartmouth. When police arrived, a man fled in a truck at what police call a "dangerously high rate of speed."
Officers attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused to pull over, and they followed him to the end of the cul-de-sac on Trinity Avenue. Police say the driver then turned and accelerated toward one of the police vehicles and the officer had to maneuver quickly to avoid being struck.
The driver fled in his vehicle and it was located abandoned on Jackson Road shortly after. A police dog tracked and located the suspect, who was hiding in the bushes nearby.
Police learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen, and have arrested 53-year-old Michael Ralph Crowell of Head of Chezzetcook on charges of assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and failure to stop for a police officer.
The investigation continues into the possession of the stolen truck and police say more charges may be laid at a later date. Crowell remains in custody and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact police at 902-490-5016 or to submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
