A Nova Scotia man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a woman he reportedly met while the pair worked in Halifax.
Ontario Provincial Police have charged Brandon Smeltzer, 25, of Bayside, N.S., with the murder of 26-year-old Emilie Maheu.
Maheu's body was found in a cornfield in Alexandria, Ont., near Cornwall, on Saturday after she was reported missing two day before.
Citing a source in Nova Scotia, The Ottawa Citizen newspaper reports the pair met while they both worked at Mills Heavy Hauling in Halifax, where Maheu worked as a receptionist and accounts payable clerk.
Both of their Facebook pages indicate they had been in a relationship.
The Citizen reports Maheu relocated to Nova Scotia for several years after taking a massage therapy course before returning to Alexandria, Ont. earlier this year.
Police said in a news release Wednesday night Smeltzer was arrested in New Brunswick and is scheduled to appear in court in Cornwall, but a date is not immediately clear.
