A crash on Highway 101 Tuesday afternoon has claimed the life of one man and sent two people to hospital.

RCMP believe an eastbound car stopped in the right lane on a divided section of highway near St. Croix before 2:30 p.m. They say it was hit from behind by a commercial truck.

An 83-year-old man from Margaretville who was driving the car died at the scene.

The passenger, a 78-year-old woman from Margaretville, was airlifted to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The truck driver was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Highway 101 was shut down for several hours for the collision investigation. It reopened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
