Halifax Regional Police were called to an area in the 2000 block of North Park Street around 7 p.m. Tuesday evening after receiving a report of an assault.

When officers arrived on the scene, a group of bystanders had restrained a 27-year-old man police say was involved in the incident that saw another man hit in the head with a pipe.

Police took the suspect into custody and held him overnight for an appearance in court.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of what police describe as serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The two men are said to have known to one another.

Police are asking anyone with information on the assault to get into contact with them, or with Crimestoppers.
