A pedestrian is dead after a collision with a transport truck in the north end Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called out to Lady Hammond Rd. at MacKintosh St. just after 9:35 a.m.

Halifax Regional Police say the victim was a 63-year-old Halifax woman and the truck was being driven by a 53-year-old Dartmouth man.

Police shut down the street between Commission and Kempt for over four hours for the investigation and Cst. Amy Edwards says it's still in the early stages.

"We have a lot of outside agencies that respond to these kinds of investigations, as well as witnesses, so it takes a bit of time for officers to speak with all of the parties and do their scene recreation," she explains.

"And of course, we'd like to keep the victim's family in mind, and our hearts go out to them," she adds.

Lady Hammond reopened just before 2 p.m.
