Halifax Regional Police are warning the public, particularly those living in the Halifax area, about the release of a man who has been assessed as a high-risk to reoffend in a sexual manner.
Donald Duane Bartlett, 49, has a criminal record that includes convictions for sexual offences against children.
He has been released from a federal penitentiary following a sentence for distribution of child pornography, printing/publishing child pornography, possession of child pornography and counselling another person to commit an indictable offence that was not committed.
Bartlett has been placed on a number of strict conditions including staying away from daycares, schools, playgrounds, community centres, public parks and swimming areas where those under the age of 16 could reasonable be expected to be present.
He is not allowed to have contact with anyone under the age of 16 unless under the supervision of someone the Court considers to be appropriate.
He's also prohibited from using the internet and other digital networks unless under the accordance with conditions set by the Court.
Bartlett is described as white, 5'8", 218 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone who sees him breaching his conditions or has information on him breaching conditions is asked to contact police at 902-490-5016 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
Halifax Regional Police are issuing the warning under the High Risk Offender Information Protocol to alert the public to his presence in the community.
"Any form of vigilante activity or other unreasonable conduct will not be tolerated," they said in a news release.
