The federal government announced a $1 million investment to help young women, female-identified or non-binary youth who are facing challenges in the workforce.

Halifax MP Andy Fillmore made the announcement on Tuesday on behalf of Federal Employment Minister Carla Qualtrough.

Fillmore says $1 million will be invested in YWCA Halifax's Launch Atlantic project under the Youth Employment Skills Strategy.

He said it will help those who are underrepresented in the workforce.

"The project will also assist youth in the LGBTQ, newcomers, those living in remote areas and youth living in low income households," said Fillmore.

Fillmore says this project will provide work, career, and personal development opportunities to 116 young women and female-identified or non-binary youth.
