Halifax man facing charges after attempted robbery and assault on Lower Water

Police say the woman got in her car, only to find the suspect inside the vehicle

A man remains in custody after police say he assaulted a woman in an attempted robbery Wednesday night in Halifax.

The report came in shortly after 8 p.m. when a 44-year-old Halifax man tried to rob a woman on Lower Water Street.

Police say the woman got in her car, only to find the suspect inside the vehicle. 

The suspect tried to take the woman's backpack but when she attempted to get it back that's when police say she was assaulted.

Witnesses followed the man to Bishop Street where he was located and arrested.

The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident and her belongings were recovered.

The suspect did not know victim and is facing charges.
