A Halifax couple is facing animal cruelty charges after an investigation by the SPCA.

The organization received a complaint in Dec. 18 that a dog had died and foul play was suspected.

Investigators seized the remains for a necropsy.

Jody Berry, 44, and Josephine Berry, 41, have been charged with causing, or being the owner who willfully permitted to be caused, unnecessary pain and suffering or injury to an animal.

They are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial court on Tuesday.

Acts of animal cruelty can be reported through the SPCA's confidential toll free hotline by calling 1-888-703-7722 or online.
