It's been one year since the Halifax Convention Centre opened its doors to allow the public to check out the new building for the first time, and it's marking the anniversary by doing it all again.
The centre's one-year anniversary Welcome Weekend goes Jan. 12 and 13.
Events East Executive Vice-President, Strategy and Business Development, Suzanne Fougere, said because the convention centre's main clients are visiting from other places, many people living here in Halifax haven't had a chance to experience the facility.
"This is really a chance for Haligonians to come in, explore the space and see what it's like in here," she explained. "We've got lots of refreshments, entertainment and activities over Saturday and Sunday."
Saturday's event goes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature a family-friendly movie.
"We've got some carnival games," Fougere told NEWS 95.7's The Sheldon MacLeod Show. "We also have Mac and Hal from the Halifax Mooseheads who will be here to greet the kiddos, and lots of great chances for folks to win prizes to events at the Scotiabank Centre"
She said that includes highly coveted tickets to the upcoming Memorial Cup.
Sunday's open house runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will showcase live entertainment from local artists and food samples from Taste of Nova Scotia.
The first event at the Halifax Convention Centre was held on Jan. 20, 2018 when it hosted the Canadian Junior Weightlifting Nationals.
Fougere said the facility wraps up its first year of operation having hosted over 140 events and welcoming over 90,000 visitors.
