UPDATE: Environment Canada ended the freezing rain warning just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A freezing rain warning has been issued for most of mainland Nova Scotia, including the Halifax area.

Freezing rain and ice pellets are in the forecast for Monday night and into Tuesday morning.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery," said the weather advisory. "Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas."

When the temperature rises above zero, the precipitation will switch to rain. That changeover is expected to happen quicker along the Atlantic coast.

As of 8 p.m., Environment Canada's hourly forecast for Halifax has the potential for freezing rain ending sometime between 6 and 7 a.m. Tuesday.
