A forest fire that started in a remote area of Panuke Lake is now considered to be 'under control'.

A representative from the Department of Lands and Forestry says in a statement that rain overnight helped control the fire, and the burn is down to an estimated size of 1 hectare.

Crews from the department's Hants West and Waverley offices will be heading out to the area Thursday morning by boat to assess the fire.

Wednesday, it was reported the size of the blaze was approximately 1.5 hectares in an area that has limited road access.

The long and narrow lake runs from near Ellershouse, east of Windsor, south west to the Simms Settlement area.
