Halifax Transit had to cancel their 10:45 a.m. ferry trip between Alderney Landing and Halifax Thursday due to what they said was a "medical issue on board the ferry at the Halifax Terminal."

Halifax Regional Municipality spokesperson Nick Ritcey said a 7-year-old boy got his head stuck between a railing on the ferry's upper deck and a post.

Emergency crews were called in to help free the youngster.

He was checked over by EHS who determined he wasn't hurt in the incident.

The Viola Desmond was able to depart the Halifax Ferry Terminal on her scheduled trip at 11:00 a.m., returning to regular service.
