Environment Canada issues special weather statement ahead of rainy weekend

There is a threat for an extended period of freezing rain for northern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island starting on Sunday

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Halifax Metro and Halifax County West

A low pressure system will track across track across the Maritimes overnight Sunday to lie over western Newfoundland on Monday Morning.

This will give extensive rain for Nova Scotia beginning this morning in the southwest and spreading across the province by this evening. The rain will persist over most areas for the weekend and into Monday Morning. Some areas may reach or exceed the warning criteria of 25 millimetres.

Also, there is a threat for an extended period of freezing rain for northern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island starting on Sunday and ending by Monday morning. Further warnings may be required.
